In the movie the Matrix Neo is walking with Morpheus along a busy street. Morpheus is trying to teach Neo something important, something that might save his life. Out of the jumbled crowd, sticking out like a Christmas tree in a fern factory, appears a ravishing woman wearing a flowing, silky red dress.
Neo loses all sense of what Morpheus is saying. He's caught in her rapture. Turning his head to watch her walk away Neo returns only to find Morpheus in his face... smiling. “Were you paying attention or were you watching the woman in the red dress?” Morpheus asks him with smug knowing.
Neo stammers that he was watching the woman. This is the moment the lesson comes hammering home. Motioning towards the woman, Morpheus tells Neo to look again. Turning Neo finds a man with a gun drawn pointed directly at him. Morpheus freezes the world around them, a simulation of the real world.
Now, the world of “The Matrix” may not relate perfectly to real life but there are lessons to be drawn. Take this as a lesson in A-W-A-R-E-ness. When Neo saw the woman he fell asleep, became automated. Stopped being aware. Stopped being unconscious. She was a distraction programmed in the Matrix. Being mindful and aware takes constant effort. It can be a struggle. Of course, if something causes us to become unconscious, to fall asleep, we won't wake up with a gun in our face... but there is a danger. Once you fall asleep, when will you wake up?
How much of your day are you spending conscious, or just sleep walking through it? How will you grow spiritually, if you cannot be mindful and aware in your every day life? How will you “become” an awakened being if you are distracted by every little thing that you meet along the way?
The answer and the problem are both the woman in the red dress.
If the theoretical 'woman in the red dress' can put Neo, or you, asleep... then can't you use the same program to wake you up or keep you aware? The answer is yes.
Higher Balance calls them, 'Consciousness Alarm Clocks'. Things that are meant to trigger you and others around you to ask the question, 'Am I aware?' If we want to awaken the world, we need more awareness in the world than 'red dresses'. Now is your chance to wear something to help you stay aware and spread that awareness with clothes and articles representing a state of higher consciousness.
The objects we possess often become a defining part of our self identity; my car, my home, my music, my books, my clothing, the list is endless. These form the picture of who you are not only by reinforcing your own beliefs but those projected by others. What you own, what you wear, tells them who you are and you will be treated based on that.
Is your external life reinforcing your inner life, or taking away from it? Without even realizing it many of us determine our success through life by that which we gather.
Of course, a person that understands this principle can better choose the objects in their environment that will define the mindset they maintain in life. It is for these reasons Higher Balance Institute created “Aware Wear: Clothing for the Conscious.”
It is our hope that these objects will become subtle reminders of your spirituality each and every time you view them and to help you become more present, aware, and conscious more often. Enjoy!
